Fritz Thate

Fritz Thate (born August 15, 1889 in Leipzig , † April 14, 1968 in Goslar ) was a German painter , postcard and landscape painter .

Life

Thate mainly created landscapes and was known as a resin painter . In the twenties of the last century Thate ran his studio in Braunschweig . This is where the few “non-resin pictures” were created, such as the poppies , the only known still life , the forest path near Ölper and the cornfield near Camberg . Many of his works were published by Verlag Hermann A. Wiechmann, Munich between 1920 and 1930 as postcards , which are still valued by collectors today. Characteristic of Thate's landscapes is the slightly winding path in the foreground, from the lower edge to the center of the picture, mostly framed by trees, as well as light reflections on the ground and a mountain in the background.

Signatures

In almost all cases, the images are signed in the lower right corner with “FThate” or just “Thate” without date or year.
