Fritz Verdenhalven

Fritz Gerhard Verdenhalven (born July 3, 1911 in Verden (Aller) ; † October 10, 1993 ) was a German librarian, local historian and genealogist .

Life

Fritz Verdenhalven attended a school in Verden and then until 1930 the secondary school in Lüneburg . In Hamburg he completed an apprenticeship as an export merchant. Due to the high unemployment in the Weimar Republic , he did voluntary labor service . From 1934 he joined the Reichswehr as a professional soldier and fought as such in World War II . Verdenhalven was wounded shortly before the end of the war. After being a prisoner of war, he worked for the Minden district government as an interpreter and later as a librarian. In 1947, the Lippische Punktationen moved the seat of the district government to Detmold , and that is how Verdenhalven came to Lipperland in 1948. In the same year he took up a position at the Lippische Landesbibliothek , switched to the Detmold district government as a librarian in 1956 and finally worked at the Detmold State Archives from 1968 until he retired on October 1, 1976 .

He died on October 10, 1993 at the age of 82 after a serious illness.

Works

As an active member of the Natural Science and History Association for the State of Lippe , Fritz Verdenhalven has published numerous articles in the periodical Lippische Mitteilungen from history and regional studies . Further works appeared as special publications of the NHV, in collaboration with the Lippisches Heimatbund or independently.
