Fritz Zängl

Fritz Zängl (born December 13, 1914 in Katzbach, a current district of Cham ; † May 21, 1942 near Smerdynya / Soviet Union ) was a German skier and sergeant , most recently in the rank of sergeant .

Life

Zängl was a member of the ASV Cham . He served in the Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 100 in Bad Reichenhall and took part in the rank of Oberjäger at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1939 as a participant in the German team in the military patrol team competition, which won the world championship in Zakopane .

As a soldier, he took part in the campaigns against France, Greece, Crete and most recently against Russia during the Second World War. He was awarded the Iron Cross II and I class.

Due to Zängl's sporting achievements, who, along with Hans Beer, was one of the most important club members, the ASV Cham has been holding the Fritz Zängl Memorial Run for several years .
