Fritz Zimmermann (soccer player)

Fritz Zimmermann (born September 2, 1929 in Gosenbach , today Siegen , † March 12, 2015 in Niederfischbach ) was a German football player . He played two international matches for the German national soccer team of amateurs .

Career

Fritz Zimmermann, who was known at least in the Siegerland football world as "Zimmermanns Fritzchen", played for SuS Niederschelden / Gosenbach from the age of 10 and, as a half-striker ( World Cup system ), made a significant contribution to the sporting successes of the 1950s.

With the selection of Westphalia in the 1954/55 season in the competition of the regional cup against the representations of Middle Rhine (2: 1), Berlin (5: 0) and in the semifinals against Hamburg (1: 1 n.V .; 6 : 0) and was therefore in the final against defending champion Bavaria on July 2, 1955 in Augsburg. With the storm colleagues Günter Grandt and Gerd Cyliax , however, he could not prevent the 2: 5 defeat against Bayern with their top performers Fritz Semmelmann and Johann Zeitler . On November 12, 1955, he made his debut alongside Herbert Schäfer in the jersey of the German amateur national team, which won 3-2 against the English selection in the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in London . Zimmermann scored the winning goal.

On May 19, 1957, he played in Offenburg in a 1-1 draw again against England his second, but also last game for the DFB amateur selection. On June 16, 1957, he stood for the second time with the Westphalian selection in the final of the regional cup. In Hanover, Lower Saxony prevailed with 3-2 goals in extra time. Zimmermann had scored the 1: 2 connection goal for the team around Herbert Schäfer and Heinz Hornig in the 56th minute . Although he was also in the squad for the amateur international match on May 27, 1959 in Siegener Leimbach Stadium (the opponent was again England), but was not used due to injury.

On October 27, 1957, he completed the 20th and last game in the amateur Westphalia selection and was particularly honored at this game in Herford. He said goodbye with a total of 16 goals scored as the “Westphalia regional cup top scorer”.

After the game year 1962/63, Zimmermann moved to Sportfreunde Siegen for three seasons and in the first year of the West Regional Football League in 1963/64 he played eleven games with three goals in the then second division before ending his career as a soccer player.

Fritz Zimmermann died on March 12, 2015 in a nursing home in Niederfischbach.
