Pious Foundation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A pious foundation ( Latin pia fundatio ) is in the canon law of the Catholic Church a set of things or assets that are intended to serve religious purposes. The foundation can be legally independent or dependent .

Possible purposes are “works of piety , apostolate or charity in a spiritual or temporal sense” (can . 1303 , 114 CIC ; can. 1047 CCEO ). A special case of the independent foundation, concerning the property of God ( factory property , fabrica ecclesiae ), is the church foundation in Bavaria and the diocese of Speyer, the church maintenance in Württemberg and the church fund in Baden. An example of an independent foundation is the church service foundation, also season called foundation (formerly Seelgerätstiftung , pro remedio animae ).

There are also foundations in the Protestant regional churches based on corresponding church laws. The Federal Association of German Foundations estimates that there are more than 30,000 church foundations of various legal forms in Germany.
