Ulrich Rhode

Ulrich Rhode SJ (born April 12, 1965 in Osnabrück ) is a German Jesuit and full professor of canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome .

Life

Ulrich Rhode studied philosophy at the Munich School of Philosophy from 1984 to 1986 . In 1986 he joined the Society of Jesus and was a novice in Münster from 1986 to 1988 . From 1990 to 1993 he studied theology at the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen , and from 1993 to 1995 canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. In 1994 he was ordained a priest in Frankfurt am Main . From 1995 to 1999 he studied at the Canon Institute of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he received his doctorate from Winfried Aymans . From 1995 to 1998 he was diocesan judge at the Archbishop's Consistory and Metropolitan Court in Munich. He completed his religious education in the United States in 1999 and 2000 .

From 2000, Father Rhode taught at the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen and completed his habilitation in canon law at the LMU in Munich in 2003 . In 2004 he was appointed professor for canon law at the PTH Sankt Georgen; from 2006 to 2010 he was rector of the university. In 2014 he was appointed full professor at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Pope Francis appointed Fr. Rhode as Consultor of the Congregation for Catholic Education on December 17, 2016 and as Consultor of the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life on October 6, 2018 .
