Ulrich L. Rohde

Ulrich Lothar Albert Rohde (born May 20, 1940 in Munich ) is a German-American high-frequency engineer, entrepreneur and university lecturer .

Life

After graduating from high school in Munich, Rohde studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Munich and the TH Darmstadt . He completed the Columbia University MBA program . At the Technical University of Berlin , he became in 2004 the Dr.-Ing. doctorate and habilitation at the BTU Cottbus .

From 1974 he headed the US subsidiary of Rohde & Schwarz , his father's company, and was then managing director of an armaments subsidiary of Radio Corporation of America until it was reintegrated into GE in 1986.

Ulrich L. Rohde is a radio amateur ; his callsigns are DJ2LR (Germany) and N1UL (USA).

Prizes and awards

Rohde holds honorary doctorates from the University of Oradea and the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca as well as an IEEE Fellow . In 2008 he became an honorary senator at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich , and in 2011 at the BTU Cottbus . Rohde has been an honorary member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences since 2013 .

Ulrich L. Rohde holds 46 patents. His father is the high-frequency technician Lothar Rohde , his maternal grandfather the chemist Franz Fischer , the inventor of gasoline synthesis. In 2015 he received the II Rabi Award of the IEEE, in 2017 the Wireless Innovation Forum Leadership Award.
