Foot mountain moss
Setup date 1979

The Fußbergmoos , also called Überackermoos , is a low moor and a landscape protection area in the Fürstenfeldbruck district in Bavaria . Together with the “Palsweiser Moos” in the Dachau district to the east, it is the remainder of the earlier “Maisacher Moos” that dominated the Maisach valley from Maisach to Bergkirchen until the end of the 19th century. It is part of the once pronounced moorland in the Munich gravel plain. From the Dachau moss . it is separated by the "Feldgedinger Schotterzunge" and the Amper.

location

The low moor area is located in the Fürstenfeldbruck district between Maisach and Bergkirchen . With an area of 551 hectares, it is the second largest bog complex in the Fürstenfeldbruck district. It is connected to other moors by the river Maisach .

history

The Fußbergmoos was created during the retreat of the glaciers after the last glacial period and the associated swelling of the mountain streams. To the north of the Munich gravel plain, hills dammed the water, which could then emerge as groundwater and collect. This is how many of the Bavarian moors north of Munich were created, including the Fußbergmoos; it is thus a spring and dam.

Until the 1950s, peat was cut in the Fußbergmoos . After the peat mining stopped, the areas became bushy and forested more and more. In order to secure the remnants of the moor landscape, 462 hectares were designated as a landscape protection area in the 1970s. The State Association for Bird Protection (LBV) has been looking after the area since 1984 . Heck cattle are used for landscape maintenance within a grazing zone .

meaning

Since an estimated 90% of the fen areas in Bavaria have been destroyed in the last 200 years, the Fußbergmoos is a refuge for rare animal and plant species and, due to the rarity of the moor type, also has a high moor ecological value.
