The Fußenauer Canal is a flowing water and a relief water of the Dornbirner Ach in the city of Dornbirn , Dornbirn District , Vorarlberg , Austria . The Fußenau Canal is formed from the confluence of the Fischbach and the Karlesgraben ( 405 m above sea level ) and runs largely parallel to the Dornbirner Ache.
The Fußenau Canal flows almost in a straight line from the confluence from the southeast to the northwest and does not cross any settlement area in the city of Dornbirn. After the confluence with the Fischbach and the Karlsgraben, the canal takes over the water flow of the Fischbach and then flows into the Dornbirner Ach. Through the canal, the Dornbirner Ache is relieved of the tributaries of the Fischbach, Karlsgraben and Haselstauderbach before it flows into the nature reserve Birken - Schwarzes Zeug - Mäander der Dornbirner Ach, where the flow speed of the water is greatly reduced . At around 0.94 to 0.98 kilometers of water, the canal crosses under the Rheintalautobahn (A 14).
The entire length of the Fußenau Canal is denatured by artificial banks and an artificial streambed made of concrete. Its water flow varies greatly between very high after recent rainfall and poor after longer periods of drought.
Surname
The river name Fußenau Canal comes from the parcel of Fussenau (also: Fuessenau ), where the confluence of Fischbach and Karlsgraben begins. The name can only be found in Vorarlberg for this body of water.
construction
The Fußenau Canal was built as part of an emergency project from 1914 to 1916 to create jobs (including the regulation of the axes, construction of Bödelestrasse, the Markt gym with the director's apartment, the Markt elementary school, conversion of the Watzenegg elementary school or the construction of the button path). The construction costs were 760,000 crowns .
Inflows and economic use
The Fußenauer Canal only has the Haselstauderbach as a relevant tributary at water kilometers 0.59 (from left). The Fußenau Canal was not used economically.
