Abdusalam Abas "Fuad" Ibrahim (born August 15, 1991 in Dire Dawa , Ethiopia ) is an Ethiopian-American football player .

Career

Ibrahim began playing football in Ethiopia at the age of five before emigrating to the United States via Kenya in 2003 with other family members to Richfield , Minnesota . In 2005 he led Richfield High School to the Classic Suburban Conference title . In the same year Ibrahim was appointed to the US U15 national team for the first time. In 2006 he became one of the youngest players in the training program of the U17 national team in Bradenton and later took part in the U17 World Cup in 2007 , where he was eliminated with the United States in the round of 16 against Germany. In the 2007 MLS draft Ibrahim was selected in the second round in first place (14th position overall) by FC Dallas. At 15, he was the second youngest player after Freddy Adu to ever take part in the MLS draft. As a player of the Adidas generation , he received a five-year contract sponsored by Adidas and endowed with USD 100,000 annually. After not being used in Dallas, he moved to Toronto in June 2008. On July 12, 2008, he completed his first professional game against the Chicago Fire , in which he also scored his first goal.

At the beginning of 2009 Ibrahim announced that he wanted to be referred to as Fuad Ibrahim in the future after his previously common first name “Abdus” led to confusion with his maiden name “Abdusalam”. In 2012 Ibrahim made his debut in the Ethiopian national team and was called up for the 2013 African Cup of Nations.

In 2013 Ibrahim played in the Finnish second division for AC Kajaani . He then returned to the US and played for Omoro United FC in Minneapolis and then returned to Ethiopia in 2015 . Most recently Ibrahim was under contract with the first division club Dire Dawa City SC in the Ethiopian Premier League until 2017 . Since then he has been without a new club.
