Fuat Deniz ( Aramaic ܦܘܐܕ ܕܢܝܙ; * July 24, 1967 in Kerburan , Tur Abdin , Turkey ; † December 13, 2007 ) was a Swedish sociologist and writer of Aramaic descent. Until his assassination in 2007, he worked as a lecturer in sociology at the Department of Social and Political Sciences at Örebro University .

Deniz was the eldest son in a Aramaic family in Southeast Anatolia born. He came to Sweden with his parents when he was eight and grew up in Örebro . In his youth he was active in the Assyrian Youth Federation, of which he was also the co-founder, and was a senior writer for the magazine of the Swedish National Assyrian Federation, Hujådå . He received a PhD in Philosophy in Sociology from Uppsala University in 1999 . In his doctoral thesis with the title En minoritets odyssé ("The Odyssey of a Minority") he deals with the experiences of the Assyrians who came to Sweden in the 1970s. Deniz was also a well-known figure among the Assyrian community in Sweden and also internationally recognized for his research on the genocide of the Aramaeans .

On December 11, 2007, at 3:30 p.m. CET , Fuat Deniz was attacked inside Örebro University and stabbed in the neck . He died of his wounds two days later in Örebro University Hospital. There has been a lot of media speculation about a possible political motive behind the assassination - because of Deniz's research into the genocide of the Aramaeans . On January 16, 2008, a 42-year-old man from Gothenburg was arrested on suspicion of murder.
