Fuchsia excorticata is a species ofthe evening primrose family (Onagraceae). In his native New Zealand , this tree is known by the Maori name Kotukutuku .

Appearance

Fuchsia excorticata is a woody plant. In its natural habitat, it reaches a height of up to 10 meters, making it the largest species of the fuchsia genus . Fuchsia excorticata is characterized by a characteristic light brown bark that separates from the trunk in long strips. The leaves have a length between 3 and 7 centimeters and a width of up to 3 centimeters. Their top is dark green and the underside is colored silver.

The flowers are characterized by a tube that is first constricted and then thickened. Ripening flowers are initially green, later purple. The pollen is blue.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22.
