Carter engine
As Fuhrmann engine is Porsche - engine type 547 designated, developed and constructed by Ernst Fuhrmann . The type 547 is an air-cooled four - cylinder boxer engine with four overhead camshafts (two per cylinder bank ), which are driven by four vertical shafts. The engine is equipped with a dual ignition equipped and has a per cylinder bank downdraft - barrel carburetor . The crankcase , cylinder and cylinder heads are made of an aluminum alloy . The development of the engine began in 1952.
