Ernst Fuhrmann (engineer)

Ernst Fuhrmann (born October 21, 1918 in Vienna , Austria ; † February 6, 1995 in Teufenbach ) was, among other things, head of engine testing until 1956 and CEO of Porsche from 1972 to 1980 . He was a German citizen .

Life

After attending primary school in Vienna, Fuhrmann attended grammar school. From 1936 to 1941 he studied at the Technical University. After serving in the Wehrmacht and various activities in Austria, he came to Porsche in 1947. In 1950 (in the same year when he married his wife Elfriede) Ernst Fuhrmann received his doctorate on valve trains in high-speed internal combustion engines .

In addition to other projects, Fuhrmann played a major role in the development of the Porsche 547 engine in 1952/53, which is known today as the " Fuhrmann engine ". This unit is a four - cylinder boxer engine with two overhead camshafts per cylinder bank , which are driven by vertical shafts.

In 1956 Fuhrmann left Porsche and took over technical development at Goetze , a specialist in piston rings .
