Peter Werner Schutz (1983)

Peter W. Schutz (born April 20, 1930 in Berlin ; † October 29, 2017 ) was a German-American industrial manager .

Life

In 1939 his family emigrated and stayed in Havana for two years before moving to Chicago . Schutz grew up there and studied engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology .

After graduating with a Bachelor of Sciences, Schutz worked for Caterpillar in Peoria for 15 years , then for 11 years at Cummins Engine in Columbus , including as Vice President. In 1978 he switched to the Cologne-based engine manufacturer Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz AG, now Deutz AG . In January 1981 he joined the Porsche company as chairman of the board , replacing Ernst Fuhrmann . One of his first decisions at Porsche was not to discontinue the Porsche 911 model , which was to be replaced by the Porsche 928 in 1982. He held the post until the end of 1987. Under protection, sales increased from 850 million to 3.7 billion marks. A drop in sales of 10,000 vehicles, particularly in the USA due to a weak dollar, and a delayed model change led to his dismissal by the Piëch and Porsche families in December 1987, one year before the end of the contract. His successor was Heinz Branitzki .

Since 2008, Schutz has been an author on business topics and has worked as a consultant with his company Harris and Schutz Inc.

On October 29, 2017, Schutz died at the age of 87.
