Gáfete is a municipality in the Crato County in Portugal .

With 856 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011), Gáfete is the largest town in the district after Crato . One of the largest granite quarries in the Alto Alentejo belongs to the municipality of Gaféte . The mass export of Japanese tombs is of particular interest. The nationally known and very popular Maia goat cheese is also produced here.
