Geraldine or Géraldine is a female given name .

Origin and meaning

Geraldine was originally an adjective to the Irish family name FitzGerald ("son of Gerald "). As a female first name, it was first used by the poet Henry Howard (1517-1547). It was later popularized by Coleridge's poem Christabel . The short form of Geraldine is Gerry .
