Geraldine Somerville (born May 19, 1967 in County Meath , Ireland ; born Geraldine Margaret Agnew-Somerville ) is an Irish actress .

Life

The daughter of a financial expert, the Baron Sir Quentin Charles Agnew-Somerville, and an antique dealer, the Hon Lady April Agnew-Somerville, took dance lessons at the age of six and went to boarding school in Tring , Hertfordshire , at the age of eight . There she received ballet lessons, but left this school at the age of 16. She continued her classes in London and graduated from Guildhall Drama School in 1989 . After playing the theater for some time, she appeared in various episodes of the television series Poirot and Casualty (1993) before receiving a leading role in the television series Cracker ( Fitz, Fitz ) with Robbie Coltrane . Geraldine Somerville played Harry Potter's mother Lily in all Harry Potter films . In 2007 she portrayed the writer Daphne du Maurier in the biopic Daphne .

Somerville is of noble descent and distantly related to the British royal family; however, she dropped her double name and shortened her name to Geraldine Somerville. The actress has an older sister who runs a restaurant in the Australian rainforest with her husband , and a younger brother who works in Hong Kong . In December 1995 she married William Osbourne-Young. The couple had their first son, Casper, in May 2002, their second, Arthur, in 2004, and a daughter, Rose, in 2007.
