Barbara Bosch (born September 5, 1958 in Stuttgart ) is a non-party local politician . She was Lord Mayor of Reutlingen from 2003 to 2019 .

Life

After graduating from high school and business school, Bosch studied political science and art history ( Magister Artium ) and worked in administration and as a teacher at the University of Applied Sciences in Schwäbisch Gmünd before and during his studies . In 1990 she became head of the social welfare office of the city of Fellbach , then head of the personal department of the local mayor. In 1997 she became an alderman with the official title of “ mayor ” in Fellbach.

On February 23, 2003, she was elected mayor of Reutlingen, where she had been supported in the election campaign against the CDU rival Stefan Schultes , who had been in office until then , mainly from Reutlingen's SPD and FDP.

On February 6, 2011, Bosch was confirmed in office in an election with only one opposing candidate, who was also not supported by any party, and a voter turnout of 23.8% with 85.6% of the votes cast.

Bosch is also chairwoman of the foundation board of the Württemberg Philharmonic in Reutlingen and chairwoman of the supervisory board of the municipal subsidiaries, including Stadtwerke / FairEnergie Reutlingen . From 2011 to 2016 she was President of the Baden-Württemberg City Council .

On July 24, 2018, Barbara Bosch announced that she would no longer run for the office of Lord Mayor of the city of Reutlingen in the next Mayor election in 2019. In February 2019, the social democrat Thomas Keck was elected her successor in the second ballot and was introduced to office in April 2019. In May 2019 she was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg .

Barbara Bosch was elected the first female president of the DRK regional association of Baden-Württemberg on September 29, 2018 at the DRK state assembly in Stetten am kalten Markt . She replaced Lorenz Menz , who was no longer running for the office. Barbara Bosch was Vice President of the DRK regional association from 2002 to 2014.
