Gérard James

Gérard James (born February 2, 1942 in Brouay , Calvados department , France ) is a French art director and set designer who won the Oscar for best production design in 1989 .

Life

James began his career as an art director and production designer in the film industry in 1974 for the film La jeune fille assassinée and worked on the staging of almost twenty films until 1999.

At the Academy Awards in 1989, he and Stuart Craig received the Oscar for best production design in Stephen Frears' film Dangerous Liaisons (1988) with Glenn Close , John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer, based on the eponymous epistolary novel by Pierre-Ambroise-François Choderlos de Laclos in the main roles .
