Gérson de Souza

Gérson de Souza ( Gérson Andrade de Souza ; born January 2, 1959 ) is a former Brazilian sprinter whose special route was the 400-meter distance .

In 1981 he won bronze over 400 meters at the Universiade as well as silver in the 400-meter run and gold in the 4-by-400-meter relay at the South American Athletics Championships in La Paz .

In 1983 he was eighth at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki and won bronze at the Pan American Games in Caracas . The following year he reached the quarter-finals at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles and the semi-finals in the 4 x 400 meter relay with the Brazilian team.

In 1987 he was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the World Championships in Rome and was again South American runner-up. In 1988 he reached the semifinals at the Olympic Games in Seoul and won bronze at the Ibero-American Championships.
