Górnik Wałbrzych (officially Klub Sportowy Górnik Wałbrzych ) is a sports club from the Polish city of Wałbrzych (German: Waldenburg) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship .

Club history

The club was founded on March 22, 1946. Between 1983 and 1989 Górnik Wałbrzych played a total of 6 seasons in the 1st Polish league . The highest ranking was the 6th place in the 1983/84 and 1985/86 seasons . In the early 1990s, Górnik ran into major financial difficulties and had to merge with city rivals Zagłębie Wałbrzych . The 1992 newly founded club was called KP Wałbrzych, later Górnik / Zagłębie Wałbrzych and played in the 2nd division. The sporting downturn continued, however, so that the club, which in the meantime started again as Górnik Wałbrzych, played in the 4th Polish league in 2008. 2009/10 they rose to the 2nd league (season west) and thus to the third highest division in the country. In the 2014/15 season, the club rose again as the penultimate in the 3rd division . In 2016 they finished first, but failed in the playoffs to Polonia Warsaw . In the late 1960s and 1970s, the club was considered a great talent factory in Polish football. In 1968 and 1973 you could win the Polish youth championship.
