history

The listed tombstone for Philipp Conrad Göhmann in the old St. Nikolai cemetery in Hanover

Philipp Conrad Göhmann (* August 15, 1800, † January 23, 1851) initially worked as a factor in Ernst August Telgener ’s royal book printing company from 1838 . before he founded his own printing company in 1843 in what was then the royal seat of the Kingdom of Hanover .

August Göhmann senior , owner of the printing house from 1859 to 1883

According to the Hanover address books from 1852 and 1859, Göhmann's wife, “Engel Justine”, was the printer herself at the machines. But after the company's founder died in 1859, his son August took over the company and initially continued it as the sole owner .

Friedrich Diers senior, owner from 1882 to 1924

In 1882 August Göhmann took Friedrich Diers senior († 1924) on as a partner, but he acquired all the shares in the following year, 1883 , but continued to operate as Göhmannsche Druckerei .

In order to satisfy the growing demand for printing works, the "[...] construction of a modern factory building was necessary", which was then built from 1906 on the property purchased for this purpose at the then address Osterstraße 83 by the Hanover-based construction company Robert Grastorf GmbH.

At the latest at the time of the Weimar Republic and after the German hyperinflation , the Göhmannsche Buchhandlung also appeared as a publisher from 1924, in particular for Walter Strauss , a railway and model railway expert.

After the death of Diers sen. In 1924, his children Friedrich and Marie-Luise Diers took over the company.

Many of the books that have been published are still in numerous university libraries.
