In Solveig's Legacy , the author treats the issue of the loss of a loved one with great sensitivity. The story takes place in the first half of the 20th century. Aron's wife Solveig was killed in an accident at a young age. Now it is described how the man tries to build a new life with his children. The story of Aron and Solveig is also rolled out in flashbacks . However, Aron never really gets over the loss of his wife. In addition, the other residents of the village, including the famous writer Selma Lagerlöf , are portrayed, sometimes in a humorous way, and we learn how Aron and Solveig's son grows into a young man.

The novel The Moon Drinker is set in Iceland . There the young Pétur grows up with his widowed father Halldór. The mother, a solitary volcanologist with a clear penchant for esotericism , who somehow looks more like a fairy (an elf?) Than a person, disappeared under circumstances that have never been clarified during a volcanic eruption of the Hekla . The father-son relationship is initially very loving, but the father who works for the radio also demands a lot from his son. Later, when the son has the first love affairs, a noticeable rivalry develops between the two. Pétur, the son, finally went to France and built a life of his own there in the economy. Only late, shortly before his death, does he reconcile himself with his now senile father.
