The Görnish suburb is an old suburb of Meissen in Saxony . It emerged from the place Kirnitz (also: Görnitz) in the soft picture of Meissen and is now considered part of the Triebisch suburb .

The village was first mentioned in 1287 as "Kernitz", in 1361 the spelling "Kirnicz" appears. In both cases the settlement is referred to as a vicus , later mentions do not directly refer to the place, but only refer to its name. Kirnitz was located immediately southwest of the old town of Meißner on the left bank of the Triebisch , just outside the city wall . A path led from the city to Kirnitz through the "Görnian Gate". This fortification was called “Kyrnicztoyr” in 1357 and “das Kirniczsch thor” in 1446, and in 1459 it was about the location “bie den Kirnischen thorme”. Today's “Görniche Gasse”, which emerged from the connecting path, is also found in the annals in 1503 as “platea dicta dy Kyrnisch Gasse”.

The city wall ran along Jüdenbergstrasse. The Quergässchen in the Görnische Vorstadt, popularly known as the notch, was already outside the fortress. The old village of Kirnitz did not fall into desolation , but only changed its name when it was actually "incorporated". The place name is related to the water body name Kirnitzsch and is probably derived from the Old Sorbian * Kyrnica / * Kernica, which means "settlement near a spring". A reference to the Old Sorbian personal name * Kyrn is also possible. A sound shift in the 13th century from G to K is also possible that Gern became Kern. The name Görner was formed regionally from Gerner . This would also explain the name Görniche Gasse .
