Götz Beck

Götz Beck (born January 13, 1934 in Bitterfeld , † October 13, 2009 in Aachen ) was a German literary and linguist .

He studied at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and received his doctorate there in 1963 ; his dissertation is entitled The position of the 24th book of the Iliad in the old epic tradition .

Beck then turned to linguistics. In 1980 he completed his habilitation at the University of Zurich with the text Speech Acts and Language Functions: Investigations into the structure of language and its limits . From 1982 onwards Beck was professor for “German Language and Literature and its Didactics” at RWTH Aachen University . He concentrated on teaching and teaching didactics. In 1998, Der Spiegel mentioned him as a “didactics professor” who turned against the “hypocrisy” of his Aachen colleagues in the case of the Germanist Hans Schwerte , who had tried to wash himself away from Nazi pollution by assuming a false identity . In 1999 Beck retired.
