Götz Lahusen

Götz Lahusen (born November 11, 1944 in Traben-Trarbach ; † May 30, 2008 ) was a German classical archaeologist .

Lahusen comes from the Lahusen merchant family . He grew up in Bremen and studied at the University of Munich and the University of Tübingen . In Tübingen he received his doctorate in 1975 under Ulrich Hausmann with the thesis investigations into the statue of honor in Rome. Literary and epigraphic evidence . Already during his studies Lahusen stayed several times in Rome , after completing his doctorate he first became a research assistant and later a consultant at the Rome department of the German Archaeological Institute . In 1980 he became a research assistant at the Archaeological Institute of Frankfurt University . There he completed his habilitation in 1985 with the work Die Bildnismünzen der Roman Republik . Several professorships followed. In 1988 Lahusen became a professor at the University of Freiburg , and since 1995 he has been an adjunct professor in Frankfurt.

Since his time in Freiburg, Lahusen worked mainly on a project of the German Research Foundation that dealt with Roman visual art. Together with the restorer Edilberto Formigli, he researched large Roman bronzes. Lahusen's work on portrait art of the Roman Republic is considered fundamental. He was a member of the German Archaeological Institute and died after a long illness.
