Idol altar
The idol altar is a prominent place in the district of Böttingen ( district of Tuttlingen , Baden-Württemberg ) in the Gewann Zahnholz.

The facility is hidden in a forest area between Böttingen and Königsheim and consists of a split boulder made of limestone with surrounding bizarre boulders and a group of burial mounds .
The gap in the boulder runs roughly in a north-south direction.
history
In 1939 shards of a pot with notched decorations were discovered under the rim during excavations . Depending on the source, the ceramic finds are dated to the urn field culture of the late Bronze Age or to the early Hallstatt culture . The finds indicate repeated visits by people. It is believed that the place was used as a sacrificial site or place of worship in earlier times .
Archaeological sites in the area
Numerous barrows were also discovered in the area of the Old Mountain and one of them was opened in 1948. There were other finds at the Heidentor in Egesheim and at Sandbühl in Bubsheim .
