particularities Observation tower

The Götzingerhöhe or wrongly Götzinger Höhe is a lookout point with a tower and restaurant south of Neustadt in Saxony at 425  m above sea level. HN . It is a popular destination for people from Neustadt. They can be reached from the Bruno-Dietze-Ring prefabricated building area via the promenade, where there is a picnic area with a small Kneipp facility ( treading water ).

history

The earliest traditions refer to the mountain after the place of execution that was there, as Gallows Mountain . From the Seven Years' War until around 1880, the name Achtlindenberg was in use after the circular linden tree on the summit, which was planted there during this time.

Then the Götzingerhöhe was named after the local historian Wilhelm Leberecht Götzinger , who lived in Neustadt and described this view and the entire area for the first time in detail. A granite block with a blackboard and a watercolor in the restaurant remind of him today.

Tourist development

The 25 m high observation tower built in 1883 together with the restaurant building is similar to the Büchenbronn observation tower south of Pforzheim in Baden-Württemberg that was built in the same year . It also comes from the factory for gas, water and heating systems Louis Kühne Dresden and cost around 4,000 marks. The tower is a steel structure with no decorations. In 1992 the tower was completely renovated and 8 new linden trees were planted. From the viewing platform you have a beautiful panoramic view of the surrounding mountains of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains , the Ore Mountains and the Lusatian Uplands . It is possibly one of the oldest steel lattice towers in the world, along with the Büchenbronn observation tower and the Gustav Vietor tower, which was demolished in 2006 . Construction of the Eiffel Tower only began four years later .

In winter, the descent from the Götzingerhöhe is popular as a toboggan run. For this purpose, a 500 meter long and five meter wide toboggan run leading down from the mountain to the promenades was laid out in the winter of 1926/27 . The inn was demolished and replaced by a new building in 1997. Since April 1, 2006 the restaurant and guest house has been open again after it was vacant.
