Günter Ammon
Günter Ammon (born May 9, 1918 in Berlin ; † September 3, 1995 there ) was a German psychoanalyst and founder of the Berlin School of Dynamic Psychiatry , the German Academy for Psychoanalysis .
Life
Günter Ammon studied medicine, psychology , philosophy , anthropology and archeology in Berlin, Heidelberg and Greifswald. He underwent a major Freudian training analysis with Carl Müller-Braunschweig at the Berlin Psychoanalytical Institute of the IPV and a second ego-psychological training analysis with Isaac Ramsey in Topeka. For almost ten years he worked as a psychiatrist at the Menninger Foundation in Topeka / USA, where, together with Menninger, Frank, Applebaum, and Horwitz, he dedicated himself to the reintroduction of group therapy at the Menninger Clinic.
Back from the USA, Ammon became a lecturer and head of the student advice center at the Free University of Berlin in 1967 . Starting out from American dynamic psychiatry, he founded the German Group Therapeutic Society (DGG) and the specialist journal Dynamische Psychiatrie / Dynamic Psychiatry in 1968 . In the following year, the German Academy for Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry (DAP) and the Berlin Teaching and Research Institute (LFI). He founded the dynamic psychiatric clinic Menterschwaige ( Munich ) and in 1970 a group dynamic conference center of the DAP in Paestum (southern Italy). He was also the founder and president of the World Association for Dynamic Psychiatry (WADP). In 1995 he completed his habilitation at the Bechterew Institute in St. Petersburg .
For his services to the preservation of the ancient archaeological site Paestum , he was made an honorary citizen of the southern Italian community of Capaccio . As one of the few foreigners, he was given the honor of being buried in the Capri cemetery.

Honors
- Günter Ammon is an honorary citizen of the Italian community of Capaccio because of his commitment to the preservation of the Paestum ruins .
- On the house where he was born at Grosse Hamburger Strasse 36, a Berlin plaque commemorates his work.
