Günter Germann (born March 21, 1952 in Wiesbaden ) is a specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery .

Life

Günter Germann studied human medicine in Düsseldorf and Mainz . His habilitation in 1989 was followed by medical and scientific stations in Germany and the USA. His scientific research focuses on the development of new procedures in microsurgery and the innovative use of the body's own stem cells for aesthetic medicine and diseases caused by degeneration .

Before his medical career, Germann was active as a competitive athlete: with BSV 07 Schwenningen he played as a goalkeeper in the 2nd Bundesliga South in the 1970s.

Career

From 1993 to January 2010, Germann headed the Clinic for Hand, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery - Severe Burn Injury Center at the BG Accident Clinic in Ludwigshafen am Rhein . It is also one of the most renowned institutions of its kind internationally, taking on the tasks of Heidelberg University in teaching, research and further education . From 1999 Germann held the professorship for plastic surgery and hand surgery there.

Since 2010, Germann has been Medical Director of the Ethianum , Clinic for Plastic Reconstructive, Aesthetic Surgery, Hand Surgery, Spinal Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery and Operative Gynecology as well as Dermatology and Preventive Medicine in Heidelberg .

For three years Germann was President of the German Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (DGPRÄC), Germany's only internationally recognized representation for plastic surgery. He is also a member of numerous national and international medical societies and a founding member of the German Society for Burn Medicine . For his scientific work he was awarded the McCormack Prize from the University of Rochester (New York).
