Günter Höfler

Günter Höfler (born January 24, 1953 in Weiz , Styria , Austria ) was in command of the Armed Forces Command of the Austrian Armed Forces from 2006 to 2012 and head of the Austrian military representation in Brussels until August 2017, most recently as lieutenant general .

Life

Günter Höfler joined the Austrian Armed Forces in 1971 and was a temporary soldier with Panzerbataillon 4 in Graz. 1974 to 1977 he completed the officer training at the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt. From 1977 to 1982 positions at Jagdpanzerbataillon 4 and at the Theresian Military Academy followed.

He completed his general staff training from 1982 to 1985 as part of the 10th general staff course at the National Defense Academy . Afterwards he was chief instructor for tactics at the Theresian Military Academy. In 1987 Günter Höfler became Chief of Staff at the Theresian Military Academy and he had a mobilization assignment as 2nd General Staff Officer of the 9th Panzer Grenadier Brigade in Götzendorf an der Leitha . After completing several training courses in the USA from 1990 to 1991, he became commander of the 9th Panzer Grenadier Battalion in Horn

1992 to 1995 he was head of the institute for officer training at the Theresian Military Academy, and he had a mobilization assignment as chief of the staff of the 10th Jägerbrigade in Sankt Michael in Upper Styria . From 1995 to 1999 he was the first Austrian commander of the command for international operations, liaison officer and military attaché of NATO and deputy head of the military mission in Brussels and military advisor to the Austrian ambassador to NATO in Brussels. Since September 1999 he has been the commander for international operations in Götzendorf. From January 2006 to February 2012 Commander of the Armed Forces Command . In his function, Günter Höfler , who was promoted to Lieutenant General , was responsible for the land forces, air forces and special forces as well as for command of international operations. The command is stationed in the Belgian barracks in Graz .

In 2012 he moved to Brussels where he took over the management of the Austrian military representation. In August 2017 he was replaced in this position by Lieutenant General Franz Leitgeb and went into retirement. In January 2018 he was promoted to general.
