Franz Leitgeb

Franz Leitgeb (born July 21, 1960 in Feldbach ) is an Austrian officer , most recently lieutenant general in the army . He has been head of the Austrian military representation in Brussels since August 2017 .

Life

After graduating from high school and training as an officer at the Theresian Military Academy , he was deployed in various commandant and staff functions with Jagdpanzerbataillon 1 in the Maximilian barracks in Wiener Neustadt , before completing the 12th General Staff Course at the National Defense Academy from 1988 to 1991 .

Leitgeb was deployed in the logistics area at corps level and as chief of staff of the 9th Panzer Grenadier Brigade in Götzendorf an der Leitha . He made international experience in Cyprus .

He graduated from the Royal College of Defense Studies in London and was an international staff officer with the Allied Command Transformation in Norfolk , Virginia .

Leitgeb was deputy head of the military policy department and from 2002 to 2004 commander of the deployment preparation center. During the restructuring of the armed forces, he was responsible for the division of armed forces, deployment and central implementation planning. As a brigadier, Leitgeb had been head of the Structures and Organization group at the Federal Ministry of Defense and Sport since 2008 .

Minister Gerald Klug appointed him to succeed Lieutenant General Dietmar Franzisci on July 3, 2013 as head of Section II (Planning) in the Federal Ministry of Defense and Sport and promoted him to Lieutenant General.

In August 2017 he became head of the Austrian military representation in Brussels, replacing Lieutenant General Günter Höfler .
