Günter Müchler

Günter Müchler (born July 25, 1946 in Wuppertal ) is a German journalist. Until 2011 he was program director of Deutschlandradio .

Life

Günter Müchler completed a degree in political science, modern history and newspaper science, which he completed in Munich in 1967, with a doctorate in 1973. phil. from. His dissertation, published in 1976, was published again in 1985 under the title The Alliance Relationship between CDU and CSU .

From 1978 to 1980 he was an editor at the Deutsche Zeitung - Christ und Welt in Bonn, since 1979 as its head of the domestic affairs department. After the newspaper was sold, he moved to Augsburger Allgemeine , where he worked as its Bonn correspondent until 1985. He then headed the editorial department of the Kölnische Rundschau in Bonn responsible for reporting from parliament until 1987 .

In 1987 he switched to radio and became head of the news department at Deutschlandfunk . In 1989 he became the station's editor-in-chief and head of the Politics and Current Affairs department . Since May 1994 he has been program director for Deutschlandfunk. In May 2004, when Gerda Hollunder left the company, he took on the same function at the sister program Deutschlandradio Kultur . In 2011, Müchler retired. His successor as program director of Deutschlandradio is Andreas-Peter Weber .

Müchler is married to the radio journalist Ursula Welter . He has authored several books on historical subjects.
