Quotes on the work of Günter Malchow

“Günter Malchow's pictures do not keep a secret that has yet to be discovered in the structures and patterns. A painterly rationalism prevails, which arranges the colors and does not set any signs. We do not or do not yet know the laws of order, but order clearly requires that all sense, all meaning play on the visible surface of the pictures. And when the exhibition is called "Building pictures with color", it also means that what is happening on the visual user interface can be described without speculation. In fact, the individual picture-building measures can be followed step by step and the study the underlying picture blueprints. (...) Someone like Günter Malchow can't just say, I'll have a minute - and swings the brush until it falls out of his exhausted arm. Such images need their preparation, their layout, their design, to which they stick or not (...). But they can hardly have arisen spontaneously. The decision for a picture, the idea for a picture, was perhaps spontaneous. But the execution is not quite conceivable without an appointment - without an execution provision. "

“Malchow assimilated several genre-defining properties at the same time in his works. They are works of art that reflect the two-dimensionality of the drawing, the planimetry of the painterly, and the three-dimensionality of the plastic and merge them into a harmonizing, but tension-laden unit. "

“Every encounter with works by this artist resembles a positioning in which one can not only look at the reference system, but experience it for oneself, even realize it. You get to know the pictures and objects of a painter for whom structure and surface, color and space are the fundamental fields of experience in reality and thus also the essential components of his art. Günter Malchow is undoubtedly one of the most interesting representatives of constructivist art in the current scene. "

“The application of paint is worth taking a closer look: like every detail of such reduced art. Here it is values that arise when various highly diluted colors are applied several times with a wide flat brush. New, less geometrically exact lines are created within the stripes. Such stripes alternate with dark or light covering monochrome stripes. The patterns are always created in a strictly horizontal or vertical form when the order changes. "

- Thomas Sternberg

“The geometry on which Malchow's art is based is the expression of the human will to create. In his paintings, the artist celebrates the human being as constructors and builders. It is no coincidence that the closeness to architecture is repeatedly emphasized in the appreciation of his art (...). So here someone expresses himself with his art who sees this possibility in stark contrast to design according to the rules of nature. In his paintings, Malchow, in a bold confrontation with all round, soft, naturally grown and organic forms, exaggerates the mathematical and geometric spirit of homo faber, who wants to subjugate the world and shape it according to his will. Man experiences himself as a builder. The architectural dimensions of the work are the congenial visualization of this powerful mainspring. Your building plan is legible like an architectural drawing. "
