Günter Schwank

Günter Schwank (born June 1, 1931 ; † August 14, 2019 ) was a German entrepreneur and association official in the plastics processing industry.

Life

Günter Schwank attended the Helmholtz School in Frankfurt am Main, where he graduated from high school in 1954.

In the 1960s, Schwank was Head of Marketing and Deputy Sales Director at Singer Sewing Machines AG in Frankfurt am Main, then Head of Sales for the Photo Porst retail chain in Nuremberg and managing director of the Porst subsidiary Deutscher Supplement Verlag, also based in Nuremberg .

Schwank was a member of the Junge Union Hessen and editor of the anniversary publication 20 Years of the Junge Union in Hessen - History and Current Focuses, published in November 1965 .

At the beginning of 1970 he switched to the plastics industry and became managing director of Badische Plastic-Werke GmbH in Bötzingen am Kaiserstuhl (later: Peguform Group ). In 1973 he moved to the newly founded Georg Utz GmbH in Schüttorf as a managing partner , a position he held for 29 years. Until 2006 he was a member of the board of directors of the Swiss parent company Georg Utz Holding AG in Bremgarten.

From 1998 to 2002 he was President of the General Association of the Plastics Processing Industry , since then he has been its Honorary President.

For several years Schwank belonged to the presidium of the European umbrella association of the plastics processing industry EuPC , the presidium of the German Institute for Standardization e. V. (DIN) and the Advisory Board of BKV GmbH in Frankfurt am Main. Schwank continued to work on the board of directors of the Süddeutschen Kunststoffzentrum (SKZ) and on the board of trustees of the plastics industry.

Günter Schwank Prize

For the 50th anniversary of the German Association of Plastics Processing Industry eV (GKV), Schwank initiated a young talent award. This prize, endowed with € 5000, has been awarded to the ten best process mechanics graduates since 2001. In 2020 the award was renamed the Günter Schwank Training Award in recognition of Schwank's commitment.
