The Utz Group (parent company: Georg Utz Holding AG ), based in Bremgarten in Aargau, is an internationally active Swiss group of companies that specializes in the manufacture of containers for warehousing and freight transport as well as workpiece carriers and pallets made from recyclable plastic . The group employs a total of 1175 people and generated sales of 287 million Swiss francs in 2018.
The company founder
The Utz Group takes its name from the company's founder Georg Utz (1916–1988), who founded a toolmaking company in Zurich's Höngg district in 1947 . As early as 1953, he moved the company, which now had 16 employees, to Bremgarten , where the company began series production of zigzag equipment for sewing machines .
Georg Utz AG
- In 1955 the legal form was converted into a stock corporation. Although the main focus of production was still toolmaking, the first injection molding machine was purchased in 1958. By 1960, the situation was reversed: storage and transport containers were essentially made of plastic using an injection molding process . In the course of the following seven years, the production rooms were expanded and the machine park expanded to 30 injection molding machines.
- In 1973, the largest injection molding machine manufactured in Europe at that time was located in the halls of Georg Utz AG, with a clamping force of 3,000 tons for the production of pallets and large-capacity plastic containers.
- In order to be able to process reusable plastics, a recycling plant was set up in 1977 , in which containers taken back are processed into granulate .
- In 1985 production began using the thermoforming process . In this way, customer-specific workpiece carriers are usually produced, in whose nests objects can be accommodated precisely.
- In 1987 Georg Utz AG was ISO certified for the first time .
- After a subsidiary was founded in Germany in 1971, the company began international expansion in the 1990s and opened further subsidiaries in Great Britain, France, Poland and, in the 2000s, in the USA and China.
- In 2000 the production of large parts was expanded.
