Günther Bobach

Günther Bobach (born August 7, 1930 in Taucha ; † March 22, 2012 ) was a German journalist in the GDR . He was editor-in-chief of the SED newspaper Freiheit .

Life

The working-class son Günther Bobach became a member of the SED in 1947 and graduated from high school in 1950 . Until 1952 he studied in the journalism section at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig , where he became a research assistant in 1953 . In 1954 he graduated as a journalist .

From 1954 to 1960 Bobach worked as an editor for the SED newspaper Freiheit in Halle (Saale) . In 1960 Bobach became deputy editor-in-chief and in 1963, as successor to Rudolf Singer , editor-in-chief of Freedom and remained so until 1967. During this time, Bobach was also a member of the SED district leadership in Halle .

From 1967 to 1989 Bobach was a member of the central committee of the SED in East Berlin and a member of the "agitation commission". Until 1989 Bobach was a member of the central board of the Association of Journalists of the GDR . During the change in the GDR in November 1989, Bobach lost all functions.

Bobach was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze in 1974 and in silver in 1980.
