Günther Gebhardt (born July 23, 1953 in Heilbronn ) is a former German racing car driver , racing car designer and racing team owner.

Career

Günther Gebhardt's driver career began in Formula Vee at the end of the 1970s . In 1978 he finished fourth in Formula Super Vee Europe and in 1979 second behind John Nielsen . In 1980 and 1981 he drove in Formula Vee and in Formula 3 in parallel . Behind Nielsen and Arie Luyendyk , he finished third in the 1980 VW Castrol Europe Cup and seventh in the German Formula 3 Championship .

Gebhardt entered the Formula 2 European Championship in 1982 with his own racing team, Gebhardt Motorsport , which has already been used in Formula Vee and Formula 3 . He started with a March 812 , with which Thierry Boutsen finished second behind Geoff Lees in the Ralt RH6 championship the year before . Gebhardt contested five races with March, but was not able to place in the points at any race start.

After the unsuccessful Formula 2 period , Gebhardt turned to sports car racing in 1983 . The racing team became a racing car designer. Günther Gebhardt was closely involved in the design work, his brother Fritz took care of the management. Individual pieces for Group C-Junior and Group C2 of Group C were manufactured and used . According to the regulations of Group C, the sports car world championship was held between 1982 and 1992 . It was used for the first time with a self-made one in the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring in 1984 . The Gebhardt JC843 was driven by Frank Jelinski , Mario Ketterer and Gebhardt. After some technical problems the trio reached the 23rd place in the overall classification and the third place in the C2 classification. In addition to starting in the sports car world championship, Günther Gebhardt also competed in the Interseries from 1986 . At the end of the 1980s, he found a financier for his racing team in the Italian entrepreneur and racing driver Giampiero Moretti . Together with Moretti and Nick Adams , he went in 1990 on a Porsche 962 at the 24-hour race at Le Mans at the start. The team dropped out prematurely after a gearbox damage on the Porsche.

His greatest success as a driver was second place in the Hockenheim inter-series race in 1987 . Gebhardt was active as a pilot until the end of the 1995 racing season, the racing team and racing car construction existed until 2001.
