Günther Hämmerlin

Günther Hämmerlin (born July 31, 1928 in Karlsruhe ; † November 12, 1997 in Munich ) was a German applied mathematician who dealt with numerical mathematics .

Live and act

Günther Hämmerlin studied mathematics in Freiburg im Breisgau and received his doctorate in 1954 under Henry Görtler on the topic of solving the eigenvalue problem of Görtler's instabilities of laminar boundary layers along concave walls . He completed his habilitation in 1961 and held the chair for applied mathematics (numerical analysis) at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich from 1965 to 1996 . He was the editor of various mathematical journals and book series. Professors Karl-Heinz Hoffmann and Heinz-Gerd Hegering are among his doctoral students .
