IC 2956 is a bar-spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 403 million light years from the Milky Way and about 140,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3826 and NGC 3900 .
The object was discovered on May 15, 1903 by Stéphane Javelle .
