IC 2974 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 251 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 165,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy IC 741 .
The object was discovered on March 23, 1895 by the astronomer Lewis Swift .
