IC 2982 (also NGC 4004B ) is an elliptical dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type E / S0 with an active galaxy core in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 148 million light years from the Milky Way and about 20,000 light years across. Together with NGC 4004 , it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair Holm 312 .

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3988 , NGC 4008 , NGC 4016 , NGC 4017 .

The object was discovered on April 28, 1894 by Guillaume Bigourdan .
