IC 2996 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sbc with extensive star formation areas in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 93 million light years from the Milky Way and about 45,000 light years across. The galaxy is considered a member of the IC 764 group ( LGG 271 ).
The galaxies NGC 4105 , NGC 4106 , IC 3005 , IC 3010 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by DeLisle Stewart in July 1899 .
