NGC 3979 = IC 2976 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 261 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 85,000 ly.
In the same area of ​​the sky is the galaxy NGC 4006 .

The object was discovered on April 23, 1881 by Edward Singleton Holden .
