NGC 3972 is a bar- type spiral galaxy of the SBbc type in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky , which is an estimated 42 million light years from the Milky Way .
The galaxy was discovered by the astronomer William Herschel on April 14, 1789 using his 18.7 inch telescope.
On April 26, 2011, from Zhangwei Jin (Ningbo, Zhejiang , China ) and Xing Gao (Urumqi, Xinjiang , China), a supernova discovered type Ia north of the center of NGC 3927th
