NGC 3985 is a spiral dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type SBm in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 45 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 15,000 ly in diameter. The galaxy is a member of the Ursa Major Galaxy Cluster .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3949 and NGC 3950 .
The object was discovered on February 5, 1788 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
