NGC 4006 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E3 in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is an estimated 256 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 125,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 754 and IC 2976 .
The object was discovered on April 15, 1828 by John Herschel .
