NGC 4031 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 351 million light years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years in diameter. In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3991 , NGC 3994 , NGC 3995 , NGC 4062 .
The object was discovered on April 6, 1864 by Heinrich Louis d'Arrest .
