NGC 4043 is an active , lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble-type S0 with extensive star formation areas in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 284 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years across.
The galaxies NGC 4058 and IC 756 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on April 9, 1828 by the astronomer John Herschel .
